Pinterest – love it or be baffled by it….
So what exactly is it? It is a relatively new Social Media channel that is increasing in popularity all the time. Its main focus is images. And if you have a business you need to be using it.
In this humorous yet informative picture, Pinterest is described as a place for recipes sharing.
And, to be fair, recipes do feature quite heavily. But things have moved on. Pinterest is far more than recipes now.
So what exactly is it? Pinterest is a social media channel where people ‘pin’ images of interest to their ‘boards’. When people look at the boards, and see something they like, they can share it by ‘re-pinning’ it to their own boards or via other channels.
People can also comment on the ‘pins’. So, just like on other channels, you can have ‘conversations’ with people. That is, after all, the reason these sites are called ‘Social’. And why do business want to talk to people? Because they either are or can be your customers.
People use Pinterest to collect things they like, are looking to buy or to gather things for a project such as a home makeover. Things like product images, interiors ideas, holiday ideas and lots more. And the best part of all is that Pinterest drives more traffic to your own website than other channels. It is even better for eCommerce sites – Pinterest creates more revenue per click than Facebook or Twitter.
So how to use Pinterest effectively? First thing to do is create your account at pinterest.com. Even if you are not going to use it, make sure your business name cannot be used by someone else.
And the second thing to do is book on one of my forthcoming training courses, which will be advertised soon. As well as web design I also run two eCommerce stores of my own. So I made it my business to understand Pinterest properly for myself. And now that I do I can pass on how to use it, as well as some great tips for using it to its best advantage.
Beware, there is one downside to Pinterest. It is so stuffed with fabulous images and information it take a lot of willpower to just pin and go! I dare you to type in “Chocolate Brownie Recipes” 😉
